Questions, answered
What is an independent celebrant?
An independent celebrant writes and leads ceremonies that aren’t tied to any one religion, organisation or script. That means your ceremony can be as traditional or as personal as you like, with the words, readings, music and rituals that feel right to you.
Is a celebrant-led wedding legally binding?
In England and Wales, a celebrant-led ceremony isn’t legally binding on its own. Most couples complete a short, simple legal registration at a register office, before or after the day, and then celebrate with a ceremony that is entirely theirs. I’m happy to explain how this works when we first chat.
Can we include religious or spiritual elements?
Absolutely. Your ceremony can include hymns, prayers, blessings or readings from any faith or culture, or none at all. Interfaith and multicultural ceremonies are very welcome.
Where can our ceremony take place?
Almost anywhere that’s meaningful to you: a venue, a garden, a beach, woodland or your own home, as long as the owner or venue is happy for it to go ahead.
Can you work with our funeral director?
Yes. I’m used to working alongside funeral directors and will fit around the arrangements you have already made, so everything runs smoothly on the day.
Will we see the ceremony before the day?
Yes. Once I’ve written your ceremony, you’ll receive a draft to read through. We shape it together until every word feels right.
How far ahead should we book?
For weddings and celebrations, get in touch as soon as you have a date in mind, as popular dates book up early. For funerals and memorials, contact me at any time and I’ll do everything I can to help.
How much does a ceremony cost?
Every ceremony is different, so fees depend on the type of ceremony and what’s involved. Get in touch for a friendly, no-obligation chat and I’ll give you a clear quote.
Something else on your mind? Just ask.
